Student Life
Teachers at MBCI are Christians committed to applying Christian principles to all areas of school life and extra-curricular activities. MBCI subscribes to the General Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches Confession of Faith.
Students at MBCI participate in Biblical Studies courses, Chapels and School Life Group meetings. In addition a Spiritual Emphasis Week is held annually.
School Environment
MBCI offers a place where students can construct good, lifelong friendships — friendships based on common beliefs and values. The staff and administration of MBCI strive to create and maintain an environment where positive lifestyles and practices can and do thrive.
School Life Groups
Each student at MBCI is assigned to a School Life Group with twelve to fifteen other students. The groups meet one time per cycle. The School Life Group meeting consists of Bible reading, announcements discussion of school concerns and/or life issue.
School Life Groups allow teachers and students to meet in a smaller, less formal setting allowing for more personal interactions. At different time of the year each School Life Group will embark on a one day Service Day to demonstrate Christian values and help out our community.
Music
MBCI is home to one of the most highly regarded music programs in the city. Our choirs consistently perform near the top in all competitions. Our concert choir has recently won the coveted Earl Grey Trophy: the top honour for choral performance at the Manitoba Music Festival. The band program is also rated very highly, consistently sending large numbers of students to the Manitoba Honour Band. Band and choir courses are available at all levels with choirs and bands in each grade in Junior High and a Concert Choir and Concert Band by audition at the senior level. Different vocal jazz, instrumental jazz and other ensembles are additional opportunities for involvement in MBCI’s music program.
Athletics
MBCI competes in the River East Transcona School Division Athletic Conference (Grades 6 through Grade 9) and the Kildonan Peguis Athletic Conference (Grade 10 through Grade 12). Our focus sports are volleyball and basketball where teams regularly vie for conference and provincial titles. It is not unusual to see the Mennonite Brethren Hawks in the top ten rankings. In addition to these two sports MBCI students participate in badminton, soccer, golf, curling, track and field. MBCI is home to two quality gym facilities and regularly hosts major provincial and cross-Canada tournaments.
Chapel
Weekly chapel events allow MBCI students to worship together. Chapel activities are planned by the Staff, student Christian Emphasis Committee (CEC) and Campus Pastor. See Recent Chapel News
