Dream Big.
Speaker: Mrs. Heather Boersma
Worship: Pastor Adrian and Students
Songs: Not Be Shaken, Indescribable, Lord of Everything, This is My Desire, Never Underestimate my Jesus (Relient K), Stop This Train (John Mayer)

Chapel kicked off with the song Never Underestimate my Jesus by Relient K and we continued in worship. Mrs. McDowell and Mr. Geddert announced the winners of the Heritage Fair and those that are going on to present their exhibits at U of Manitoba! Following, Noah did a great cover of John Mayer's Stop this Train, as we began thinking about this theme of dreaming big. Mrs. Boersma spoke about the Dull, the Distracted, the Drama-filled moments in our lives. She related how it's these moments that tend to rule our lives - we get stressed out and we lose sight of our dreams. We were encouraged to pursue our dreams - those things that "light us up" with excitement and we get passionate about. Pursue them!
April 13 ~
Be in Prayer.
Speaker: Mr. Matthew Opalko
Worship: Pastor Adrian and Students
Drama: Grade 12's - Suite 180
Scripture: II Timothy 4:17 ~ But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all might hear it.the message might be fully proclaimed and all might hear it.

Mr. O. spoke about his time in Thailand with Athletes in Mission. He shared two very significant stories of seeing God at work in the world. In one story, he shared how he had prayed that God would help him find a man he had met the day before. He felt that he needed to tell this man about Jesus and what Jesus has done in his life. He prayed and when he opened his eyes, the gentleman was directly in front of him. God had provided an opportunity to share His message. In the second story, Mr. O shared about God's healing power. Check out the story accounted well on the MBMSI website.
Mr. O. related how he has seen that God is real. Therefore, the message of God should be shared with others!

SOAR Stories
Easter Meditation by Pastor Adrian
March 11 ~
Earthen Vessels: The Curious Case of the Tim Horton's Cup
Speaker: Mr. Pierre Gilbert
Worship: CMU Worship Team
Scripture: II Corinthians 4:7 - We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

This chapel will be led by students and staff from Canadian Mennonite University. For more information, visit www.cmu.ca.
March 3 ~
Be Yourself.
Speaker: Ms. Jaylene Johnson
Worship: MBCI Worship Team
Drama: Grade 12's

The worship band kicked off chapel with Copleland's song: Priceless. The Grade 12's presented another epsiode of Suite 180. Mario was experiencing a dilemna as he sought to be "more" Italian. He began using an italian accent like his brother. He discovered that using a false accent didn't make him more Italian. He's learning to be himself. Ms. Johnson spoke about God as a Master artist. God designed us uniquely and beautifully and we bring glory to God by being ourselves. Being ourselves is actually an act of worship. Each of us needs each other to be ourselves and we need to encourage each other to do this. If we celebrate one another's uniqueness, the community becomes healthier! It's the way life is meant to be lived!
February 23 ~
Be Real.
Speaker: Steve Sutherland, Camp Pastor, Camp Arnes
Worship: MBCI Worship Team
Songs: Shout to the North, Cry in My Heart (Starfield), Not be Shaken, Hosanna (Brooke Fraser)

Pastor Steve spoke about heroes. He encouraged us to have a hero, someone we can look up to and try to live our lives like. He pointed us to Jesus, the ultimate hero and the most excellent example to model our lives after. Steve had us laughing with his stories. He noted that we're often afraid to be ourselves; we're afraid to show who we really are. True heroes know who they are.
February 12 ~
Aslan's Child.

Aslan's Child, a ministry of Providence College, led in worship, including some excellent original tunes! Thanks a lot!. For more information, visit www.providencecollege.ca/aslan'schild.
February 4 ~
Be Faithful.
Speaker: Mr. Fred Pauls
Worship: MBCI Worship Team
Drama: Grade 12's

MBCI students kicked off the chapel with three great worship tunes, Here I am to Worship, Fire Fall Down and My Future Decided. What a great start to the morning. The grade 12's once again gave us a fantastic episode of Suite 180. We saw Amber and Luigi get back together and a lesson about faithfulness was illustrated. Mr. Pauls told us about speed skater, Cindy Klassen, and how through both tough times and joyous times, she has remained faithful to God. She seeks to glorify God through her speed skating passion.

January 18-22 ~
Spiritual Emphasis Week: Created to Shine.
Speaker: Sam Dick, Mobilization Coordinator, MBMSI (read his bio)
Worship: Jamie Niven, Youth Pastor, The Meeting Place, and MBCI Worship Teams
Dramas: Grade 11's
Guest: Amanda Falk

We began this year's Spiritual Emphasis Week with a concert by Amanda Falk. She performed some new songs that will be on her new album coming out later this year.
Sung Worship: Jamie Niven and MBCI worship teams kicked off each chapel with some rocking worship songs. There were times of reflection incorporated into the worship time as well, as Jamie spoke about what our worship can be and what our lives can be like, with Jesus as our companion. A list of the songs we sang is below; we’ll be singing some of them again throughout the rest of the year!
Tuesday: The grade 11’s performed a drama entitled, Sour Grapes, a group therapy session for the characteristics that were not chosen as ‘fruits of the Spirit.’ In the end, each discovered that they could choose to use their abilities for good, no matter who they are. Sam Dick spoke about the idea that we are all Born to Shine. We have been created by God to shine like stars in the world. No matter who you are, if you’ve allowed God control of your life and have surrendered your life to Him, you have the ability to SHINE.
Wednesday: The grade 11’s performed to the song Deathbed, by Relient K. It was a moving story; a lifetime, from birth to death. We were reminded of the choices that we make and the obstacles that we face. No matter what occurs, Jesus still accepts us and love us. Sam Dick spoke about the obstacles we face in life, the temptations that are out to get us. He used a ‘bug zapper’ on stage to illustrate how we are drawn to the light when all is dark. But whose light are we drawn to?
Thursday: Grade 11’s perform CSI: Christian Scene Investigation. With some humor, Potatio Clean investigates a scene and interprets the clues. Through interrogation, we find that the Christian life isn’t as confusing as we make it. Sometimes we overcomplicate the simple elements like obedience, generosity and love. Sam Dick spoke about unstoppable friends, this notion that if we SHINE together, we will be much stronger and able to live out our faith more effectively. Surrounding ourselves with others that are trying to shine, helps our light shine more brightly.
Friday: Sam Dick spoke about our need to be shining lights in dark places. With the help of our friends, we can tell others about the light of Jesus that shines in our lives. We can help others to know Jesus and experience the incredible life change of walking in freedom as a child of God. We closed the week off with a song that Jamie taught us, How He Loves, by JohnMark McMillan: a song that just speaks so clearly about how much God loves people. Many of us knew that God’s hand was on our lives this week. Let’s re-tell what God is doing in our lives through the things we hear and experience.
Songs: My Future Decided, Second Chance, One Way, No One Like You, Did you Feel the Mountains Tremble, Arms Open Wide, How He Loves, Oh Praise Him, How Great is our God, Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone).
January 11 ~
Be Yes.
Speaker: Adrian Enns
Worship: Ms. J. Johnson

The first chapel of 2010 included worship led by Ms. Jaylene Johnson. Our teaching for today came from Matthew 5:33-37 which reads,
"Don't say anything you don't mean. . You only make things worse when you lay down a smoke screen of pious talk. . Just say 'yes' and 'no.'"
It included a Nooma video called Shells. We were reminded that our lives are so very busy, yet we're the ones in control of how much we put into our schedules. In order to stay on the course God has set out for us, we have to remember what we've said yes to. For many of us, that is Jesus Christ. Having said YES to him, helps us to know what we should say NO to, in order to 'stay the course.' We can say no, because we've already said yes.
December 18 ~
Home for Christmas.
The second of two Grade 10 Christmas Dramas. A sentimental story of faded memories, family relationships and old friends. The Clayton family has scattered to every part of the country. Some of them have been successful and some have difficult problems. Their mother isn't well and this may be her last Christmas. One of the daughters, determined that the family recapture something they seem to have lost, forces them all to come home for Christmas.
Also can be seen on Tuesday, December 15 at 7:00 pm, Theatre classroom.

December 10 ~
Christmas Concert.
Christmas Concert, including Advent readings.

December 2 ~
Be Expectant.
Grade 10 Christmas Drama: Miss Brookes and the Christmas Carol
Advent Readings: Caitlin P., Cullen K., Hannah D., Carter B.
Songs: O Come, O Come Emmanuel, O Come All Ye Faithful
We began with a tribute to our Varsity Boys: Provincial Volleyball Champions! Students were able to watch the last minutes of the final match and see the crowd of MBCI fans storm the court with the 15-9 win in the final set. The team came onto stage as we applauded and recognized their accomplishment.
Grade 10 drama students presented the first of two Christmas dramas: Miss Brookes and the Christmas Carol.
We lit four candles of Advent: Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. Advent means coming - CHRIST is coming. MBCI students read Advent readings for each candle as we sang O Come, O Come Emmanuel. Our chapel concluded with the traditional carol, O Come All Ye Faithful. As we begin the Advent season, let's remember WHO is coming. Christ is coming. He is always coming, always entering a troubled world and a wounded heart.
Advent Prayer:
Loving God, we open ourselves to you this Christmas season. As these candles are lit, light our lives with your imagination. Show us the creative power of hope. Teach us the peace that comes from justice. Fill us with the kind of joy that cannot be contained, but must be shared. Magnify your love within us. Prepare our hearts to be transformed by you, that we may walk in the light of Christ. Amen.
Prayer from Jeanyne Slettom.

November 24 ~
Be the Word.
Speaker: Tim Ewert
Worship: MBCI Worship Team
Drama: Suite 180 Episode #3
Songs: One Way, Indescribable, Hosanna (Brooke Fraser), Mighty to Save
A jazz ensemble made up of Andrew Brown, Anders Lysack, Andrew Regehr and Michael Olfert gave us some smooth jazz to walk in to. A student worship team led us in sung worship. Suite 180 gave us the third installment of the chapel drama series. Some major changes are occuring in the lives of the characters. Tim Ewert followed with some teaching on Be the Word. He shared some stories about people who "reacted" with love in difficult situations. They had developed habits, that when confronted with a quick decision, helped them to choose love. How can we cultivate love so deep in our lives that our first reaction, without thinking, is one of love? Let's live out the Word: Jesus Christ.

November 16 ~
Be Love.
Speaker: Matt Klippenstein
Music: Lisa Francis
Our guest musician today comes from Halifax, NS. Lisa Francis presented some of her music for us. You can find out more about Lisa online at Myspace or Facebook. Matt Klippenstein spoke about living out real love day-to-day. He spoke about the fact that loving God is only one half of what we're supposed to do - Loving our neighbour and our enemies is the second part. When we love others around us, everyone's needs are taken care of and a revolutionary result occurs.

November 05 ~
Be People of Peace.
Speaker: Mr. Enns
Worship: MBCI Worship Team
Songs: Prince of Peace, How Great is Our God, The Door (Leeland), Revolution (Starfield)
War and peace are on our minds as we contemplate Remembrance Day. The Suite 180 story continued as we learned more about the character's past. The drama ends as two old middle-school classmates discover lies they've believed for years. Lies are broken and peace intrudes. If only they'd spoken sooner.
Mr. Enns spoke about being People of Peace. The fact that many of us don't have our opinions made up about war and peace doesn't allow us the privilege to not exercise peace regularly. It is natural to be drawn to force or violence and we need to teach ourselves to respond with peace instead. At home, at school, online - we have opportunities to stir up trouble or foster peace. Which will you choose?
Choose one moment this week to respond with peace, not force. Note your findings.

October 28 ~
Speaker: Kassie Tyers, BUGirl
Worship: Kassie Tyers
Online: http://www.bugirl.com/index.php/kassie-tyers
Pastor Adrian opened the chapel with the relief raised for the Philippines. 75 cans of food, 30 bags/boxes of clothing, toys and books and $468.02 were given! Kassie Tyers of BUGirl was our guest. She provided some music and stories about God, family and experiences. Thank you Kassie!

October 20 ~
Be the One.
Speaker: Mrs. H. Boersma
Worship: Jamie Niven (Youth Pastor, The Meeting Place), Mr. Enns, MBCI students
Songs: You Hold Me Now, Only You, Did you Feel the Mountains Tremble, No One Like You
Our chapel began with a time of prayer for the Kasdorf family as they grieve the loss of Mr. Kasdorf. Jamie Niven led us in the song, You Hold Me Now, as we moved into a time of sung worship. Next, the first act of our chapel drama series, Suite 180, was presented. Mrs. H. Boersma followed, encouraging us to Be the One to follow God. She spoke about her own life and the opportunities she's had to be the one to respresent God. She related to the story of Joseph in the Bible, reminding us of the many opportunities he had to give up on life, but he pressed on. Chapel concluded with a rousing rendition of Did you Feel the Mountains Tremble and No One Like You.
How can you be the one this week?

October 9 ~
Be Honest.
Speaker: Dr. Chris Marchand, Associate Professor of Youth Leadership, Providence College
Worship: Mr. Enns
Songs: God of Wonders
Our time of worship consisted of some Scripture reading and a time of prayer for the needs in the Philippines. Hannah Severa gave us some ideas on how to help and reminded us that our response should be one of compassion. Dr. Marchand challenged us to be honest with people around us. When we feel alone, we can receive support from those around us if we ask for help. He reflected on a time in his life when he was at the "end of his rope." He also spoke of a student of his who was lost to suicide. It is so important to be honest with ourself, others, and God.

October 1 ~
Be Compassion.
Speaker: Pastor Adrian
Worship: MBCI students
Songs: From the Inside Out, Take it All, Mighty to Save, You Deserve
Pastor Adrian spoke of compassion - it's seeing a need and then filling the need. It's actually quite simple and can be seen actively in our lives every day. Will we take advantage of the opportunities to fill the needs that we notice today? We're both rich and poor at different times in our life. Sometimes we'll be able to fill a need, sometimes we'll require our needs to be met. If we all show compassion, everyone will be well cared for!

September 23-24 ~
2 day Spiritual Emphasis
Speaker: Lindsay Poggemiller Smith
Worship: MBCI students
Lindsay challenged us to Tune into God. Like a radio tunes into a station, so we can tune into God and what he's doing in the world. Speaking from some of her experiences in Africa, to her work in our city, to moments experienced on the volleyball court, Lindsay showed us real ways in which we can tune into God. Recognizing his presence in every situation can help us stay focused on God and his hopes for the world.

September 15 ~
First Chapel of the Year!
We met Pastor Adrian and were challenged by Mr. Bargen to, "always pray and never give up." Jesus urged this of his disciples in Luke 18:1.
Student Council presidents, Caleb and Caitlin, introduced their theme for the year, "And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God." They also introduced the whole Student Council. Some members of Student Council led us in sung worship.
Pastor Adrian spoke from the verse, Ecclesiastes 11:9, "Don't let the excitment of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and no longer enjoy living."
The chapel theme for 2009-10 is Be. Be the Change. Be the Difference. Be the Witness. Be the one. Put others first. Be the Love. Be Compassion. Be the Friend. Be the Word. Be Equipped. Be steady and strong. Be the _________________. What do you want to be?
Be like Him.
