Devotional Day 1, Thursday, October 29th, 2009
I saw this year’s Student Council try an interesting activity at the beginning of the year. It included some Starbucks and Tim Hortons cups and a traditional hair elastic or rubber band with a bunch of strings attached to it.
Picture an elastic circle with lots of strings going off in many directions. As a team, with each member holding the end of one string, they were able to stretch the elastic large enough to get around a cup. Then with each person lifting their string, they were able to lift and maneuver the cup to exactly where they wanted it. With a gentle pull from each string, the elastic circle would stretch and the cup would be left. For some teams, moving one cup was a challenge. For others, it came more easily and they were able to build whole pyramids of cups quite quickly, without ever touching a cup. Working together was the only way to accomplish the task and everyone had to be involved.
Together we can build community here at school. But it’s going to take everyone. No one is allowed to sit out. And respecting each other means that we all give it our best shot to be involved. If you don’t take part, it will influence everyone. But if everyone participates, we can all enjoy our days at MBCI.
Let’s try to trust, be truthful and work together, so we can build MBCI traditions that transform today and tomorrow.
- Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you're on their side, working with them and not against them. ~Philippians 4:4
Prayer:
Dear God – Help us to work together and to look for others around us that will help us accomplish good things at MBCI. Help us to include others so that the whole student body can be as one team.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
