Turmoil! Stress! Strain! Hassle! Fighting! War!
Tune in to the news and you’ll see that peace is in short supply. Yet among all the unrest, Christians can enjoy a peace that defies explanation. How? Get to know the Prince of Peace.
You lay back in your lawn chair, sip a cool drink and mutter, “Ahh, peace at last!” But in reality, that’s a cue for a wasp to start dive-bombing you, a neighbor to rev up his lawnmower, a cloud to cover the sun and the chair to collapse. Such peace is easily shattered! Peace in the world is very fragile, fickle and unpredictable. All kinds of things can leap out and unsettle us. Teachers for one! You arrive at school in a good mood and suddenly they hassle you for your homework. Why do they do that? Oh wait – YOU knew it was due today! J
Families are another. You are watching the TV in peace when someone switches the channel, your parents ask you too many questions, and your siblings regularly get under your skin. But the peace that the Holy Spirit brings to our lives is not dependent on people around us but the Person inside us. It’s the peace of Jesus who faced the most stressful situations with a deep inner calm. It’s a peace that comes from obeying God and knowing you are safe in His care!
If you haven’t experienced this kind of peace in tough times, talk to a teacher or Pastor Adrian. For many of us, we cannot imagine living life without God at our side, providing his ultimate peace in times of confusion, struggle and despair. Jesus tells us:
I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
~ John 14:27
Why not embrace Jesus? He alone provides the peace that we all crave.
Prayer:
Dear God – Help us to give you a try if we haven’t already. Your presence with us in tough times is beyond believable. We have to experience it. Remind us to call on you when we need the Prince of Peace.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
