hide-and-seek

Can you remember how fun hide-and-seek is? Searching out the perfect place to hide was something I really enjoyed when I was younger. In fact, let’s be serious – I still love it. The rush of adrenaline when you hear footsteps and whispering as you’re almost found, the extreme joy you feel when the footsteps keep walking, the absolute stillness, your heart pounding as you wonder if you should run for it or keep quiet – I love it.

I remember one instance in particular. I was at camp for a week during the summer. Every year, we’d play a gi-normous game of hide and seek. And I had been to this camp before; I knew some of the good spots. I remember this one spot – it wasn’t far from a large light, but it was a very shadowy area. It always proved to be a good spot b/c it was so close to the Seekers that they wouldn’t consider looking there. But this time, I wasn’t going to go to the easy spot – I was going to find a new one. I found this slight gulley in the ground, way back in the woods. I remember lying there and hearing Seekers walk close to my hiding spot, but they never found me. In fact, I was the last one to come out and the game had been over for about 20 minutes! All in all, I had a good time. But the next day I wasn’t as happy about the game. I found out that I had been lying in a gulley full of poison ivy. Within a couple of days I was covered from head to toe in poison ivy. What a way to wreck the fun of hide-and-seek.

“Although you may not be looking for God, God is constantly looking for you and trying to reveal himself to you. Over and over again, God tells us that he loves us. God’s patience with us is infinite. If your relationship with God has involved a little more hiding than seeking lately, why not decide to turn that around? The Bible says to “Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near” (Isaiah 55:6).”1

Prayer:

Thank you God – Your constant seeking of us is amazing. Oh the blessings that we will find if we just turn our face to you and decide to “let” you find us. Please continue to seek us.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
