October 30, Update

October 30, 2020

Hello MBCI Families,

Today, the province announced that the Winnipeg Metro area is moving to the Critical (Red) stage on the Pandemic Response System, effective Monday, November 2. While this move has a significant implications throughout the city, it is important to note that schools in Winnipeg are remaining at the Restricted Orange level, to which we already moved this past Monday, October 26.

What this means for us at MBCI, is that we continue on as we have been this past week. Teachers and staff worked hard last weekend to move and prepare classrooms with additional spacing between students. Our grade 9 – 11 students joined our grade 12 students in learning at home on alternate days. We’re grateful for the flexibility and engagement of all involved and for a smooth transition to new guidelines.

The province’s decision to keep schools at Orange is a result of strong evidence that the measures implemented within schools are effective in reducing the likelihood of virus transmission while at school. We remain confident in the plan we have put in place at MBCI and are thankful for the commitment of our students and staff in practicing health protocols.

In today’s announcement, the province reminded parents of the option for students in grades K – 8 to choose temporary remote learning for the duration of Restricted Orange. This is still an option for MBCI families with students in grades 6 – 8, even if you have not already done so this past week. Please notify the office as soon as possible if you would like to opt in for grade 6 – 8 full remote learning.

As an MBCI team we are continuing to pray for the health and well-being of our community. These have been challenging weeks, yet we are grateful for the opportunity to face these circumstances together, and that we are able to continue with in-person learning for all students.
